Every yard superintendent I've talked to about automation eventually asks the same question, usually right after sitting through a vendor demo that looked great on a laptop but had nothing to do with their actual yard. I've watched a modest win, something as simple as cutting search time for a misplaced car from twenty minutes down to two, do more for a project's credibility than the entire investment case did. That kind of early, visible proof is often what keeps the budget alive long enough to reach phase two.
